6-time Australian Open champion advances 2019 semifinals after Japan's Nishikori quit due to injury in second set

ISTANBUL (AA) - World number one men's tennis player Novak Djokovic on Wednesday reached the semifinals in the Australian Open 2019 after Japan's Kei Nishikori quit with a thigh problem.

The Serbian top-seeder was leading 6-1, 4-1 when the 8th-seeded Nishikori injured in the second set in their quarterfinal match.

31-year-old Djokovic will face French Lucas Pouille in the semifinals on Friday.

The 28th-seeded Pouille beat Canadian Milos Raonic to advance to the semifinals in the Australian Open 2019 on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old French reached his first Grand Slam semifinal.
