Austria Press Agency marks 75th foundation anniversary

ANKARA (AA) – Austria Press Agency (APA) is celebrating its 75th foundation anniversary and hosting this year's general assembly of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).

Anadolu Agency's Serdar Karagoz, chairman of the board and director-general, arrived in Vienna on Wednesday to attend the EANA meeting.

Karagoz congratulated Austria Press Agency for the 75th anniversary of its foundation, saying: "We give the utmost importance to our cooperation with Austria Press Agency."

"APA is a highly respected and successful news agency. APA's CEO, Mr. Clemens Pig, has brought the agency to the next level. I wish him all the success," he added.

Austria Press Agency is the national news agency and leading news provider of Austria.

The EANA's general assembly will be hosted by APA between Oct. 6-8.

Two new EANA board members will be elected at the general assembly, as well as a chairman and secretary-general.

A conference titled "Bridging gaps: Diversity in newsrooms - Telling the stories" will also be held during the meeting.

EANA serves as a professional platform to increase cooperation and information exchange between European news agencies by holding conferences each year, where problems and future perspectives are discussed.

Established on Aug. 21, 1956, in Strasbourg, France, EANA's founding fathers were Western European news agencies, Turkey's Anadolu Agency, and Tanjug (Yugoslavia). Agencies behind the so-called "iron curtain" were invited to join in 1970.
