Azerbaijan, NATO underline importance of political dialogue, developing cooperation

Azerbaijan’s foreign minister held talks with NATO’s special envoy on sidelines of 30th ministerial council meeting in North Macedonian capital

ISTANBUL (AA) - Azerbaijan and NATO underlined the importance of political dialogue and developing cooperation Thursday amid the alliance’s 30th Ministerial Council meeting in the North Macedonian capital of Skopje.

It was conveyed in a statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry following talks between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina on the sidelines of the Council meeting.

“Current issues of the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and NATO, regional and international issues, as well as Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and prospects of negotiations were discussed at the meeting,” according to the statement.

It said the meeting underlined the importance of holding regular political dialogue and developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO “as a partner and contributor to peace and security in the region and beyond its borders.”

The statement also said Bayramov informed Colomina of steps by Baku to advance peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and that other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest were addressed.

Bayramov arrived in Skopje earlier in the day where he also held talks with his Swiss, Hungarian, Swedish and Bosnian counterparts, respectively.​​​​​​​
