DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - Dengue has turned into a severe proportion in Bangladesh as a total of 10,528 people have been infected with the mosquito-borne viral disease in the last seven months, breaking all previous records.

In the last 24 hours 683 dengue infected people have been hospitalized, which is also the highest record in one-day infection, according to Bangladesh government's Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) latest record published Saturday evening.

The DGHS record, however, affirms the death toll up to the date as 8 that is unchanged for the last three days.

But according to a high court record as of July 14 the death toll in dengue until then was 11 while local media reports said the death toll surpasses 27.

A student of Bangladesh's oldest public university, Dhaka University, died on Friday night while the disease took the life of a female doctor on Thursday night.

Almost all local media gave a huge coverage to the both cases.

How the death toll due to dengue remains unchanged for the last three days despite these two hugely covered cases - in reply to a query the on-duty medical officer of DGHS told Anadolu Agency that they have a specialist medical team to monitor the issue.

"After the confirmation of the concerned medical team we record a particular death case as dengue-infected," the officer added.

The number of dengue cases in Bangladesh has increased by around nine times in the last 10 years, according to DGHS records.

In 2008, when the dengue issue was highly focused in Bangladesh, there were only 1,153 dengue patients countrywide who all survived.

In 2018, a total of 7,450 dengue cases were reported till October, the month of the year considered to be the closing of dengue fever in the region.

Obaidul Quader, the secretary general of the ruling Awami League party, said on Saturday government is working sincerely to tackle the prevailing dengue fever.
