DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - The border security forces of Bangladesh and Myanmar are in talks to get nine Bangladeshi fishermen released, officials said Wednesday.
The fishermen were allegedly detained by Myanmar's border guards in the Naf River, which flows between the two countries, on Tuesday.
"We came to know from the local fishermen that some Bangladeshis with a fishing trawler had drifted to the Shah Porir Dwip deep sea area, the mouth of the Naf River, a maritime-boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar, for fishing," Lt. Col. Mohammed Faisal Hasan Khan, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh in the southernmost Teknaf district, told Anadolu Agency.
We have shared our concerns with Myanmar's authorities and are hoping for their early release, he added.
