Bangladesh reiterates telecom ban in Rohingya camps
Government banned selling of SIM cards, mobile phone service in camps last year
By SM Najmus Sakib
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - Bangladesh's telecommunications authority has asked all mobile phone operators to stop services in Rohingya camps and selling of SIM cards to them citing national security, an official said Monday.
Samiul Khan, a senior assistant director of Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission, confirmed issuing of this directive.
The move came after a news report saying SIM cards were being sold at refugee camps in Cox's Bazar defying a government ban imposed last October.
