Bangladesh reports over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) - Bangladesh on Thursday registered as many as 2,029 coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 40,321.

In a news conference, Nasima Sultana, a director at the Health Ministry, said the death toll in the country rose to 559 as 15 more people died in the past 24 hours.

The health directorate under the country’s Health Ministry conducted 9,310 tests in a day.

Meanwhile, some 500 more people recovered and were discharged from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 8,425, Sultana said.

Bangladeshi authorities had confirmed first three cases of the virus in the country on March 8 and first death on March 18.
