Basaksehir eliminated from Europa League play

ISTANBUL (AA) – Istanbul football club Medipol Basaksehir was eliminated from the UEFA Europa League tournament on Thursday in a 2-0 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine.

An own goal by Larwek Attamah in the 22nd minute was all Shakhtar needed but they added an insurance score by Marlos Bonfin on a penalty kick in the second half in the match played at the Arena Lviv.

Basaksehir lost all six of its matches in the tournament.

Other Turkish teams, Fenerbahce and Osmanlispor, fared better and are still alive in the tournament.

A 2-0 victory by Fenerbahce over Swiss rival Grasshoppers at the Letzigrund stadium allowed the Turkish squad to advance to the group stages.

And Osmanlispor beat the Danish team FC Midtjylland 2-0 at Osmanli Stadium in Ankara.
