ISTANBUL (AA) - Greece's victory over the Czechs on Monday fell short of getting the 12 points they needed to reach the quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
"The Czechs have done it -- this is one of the greatest losses [in] the country's basketball history as they managed to stay ahead of Greece in a possible three-way tie," FIBA said on their official website after the match.
The 84-77 victory over the Czechs was not enough for Greece, as they needed a 12-point victory to move past the Czechs to reach the quarterfinals.
Czechs' top scorer was Jaromir Bohacik with 25 points while Greece's Nick Calathes scored 24 points, and their NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks finished with 12 points.
Now the Czechs just need a possible victory by the USA over Brazil to make it to the quarterfinals.
