BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - A car and motorcycle fair in Serbia opened its doors to enthusiasts and firms in the capital Belgrade on Thursday.

Some 28 car brands are on display at the three-day Belgrade Car Show with about 50 premieres, most of which are electric and hybrid vehicles.

Attending the opening event, President Aleksandar Vucic said the Serbian car industry had a bright future and that at least two major global car manufacturers plan to open factories in the country.

"I'm proud of Serbia and Belgrade, of the car and motorcycle fair, since today, we're attending the first manifestation of its kind in Europe after a two-year break," Vucic said.

He added that Serbia would succeed in establishing an entire production chain for electric cars.

The fair will be host roughly 210 car exhibitors and the representatives of about thirty brands, including a premiere of new models by Sino-British MG, a 102-year-old car brand that is currently the fastest growing in the UK.

It will display between 120 and 140 different models.

As many as 48 new models will be exhibited at the fair, of which 36 are premieres and 12 are novelties. As many as 36 will be presented with fully electric or full hybrid drive.

Organizers point out that this is the first such event in Europe held after the pandemic.

"This is really a feat because until only three months ago, such a project was an impossible mission," said organizer Zoran Lupsic.

Fans of classic vehicles will also be able to attend an exhibition of old-timers and manufacturers of parts and equipment will make presentations in the surrounding smaller halls.
