Biden taps Martina Anna Tkadle Strong as new UAE envoy

Strong is a career foreign service officer, and currently serves as Charge d'affaires in US embassy in Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON (AA) - President Joe Biden nominated on Friday Martina Anna Tkadle Strong to be the new US envoy to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Strong is a career foreign service officer, and currently serves as the Charge d'affaires in the US embassy in Saudi Arabia. Prior to her term in Riyadh, Strong served in Bulgaria, Iraq and Poland. She speaks Arabic, Czech, Polish, French, German, Russian, and Bosnian, according to the White House.

Like all other ambassador nominees, Strong will require Senate confirmation, a process that has been unusually drawn out with Republicans holding half of all seats in the 100-member chamber.

In addition to Strong, Biden tapped B. Bix Aliu to serve as his envoy to Montenegro. Aliu is also a career foreign service officer.
