ANKARA (AA) - Bolivia on Monday made an official request to open an embassy in Turkey, according to diplomatic sources.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his Bolivian counterpart Fernando Huanacuni Mamani held a meeting in capital Ankara, said the sources, on condition of anonymity due to the restrictions on speaking to the media.

During the meeting, Mamani handed over a note to Cavusoglu which officially requested permission to open an embassy in Turkey, the sources added.

Cavusoglu said Turkey is ready to provide support to Bolivia in every field.

In a message posted on his official Twitter account, Cavusoglu reiterated Turkey’s resolve to improve bilateral relations.

“We are determined to further develop #Turkey-#Bolivia relations in all fields,” he wrote, adding: “At our meeting with my counterpart, Foreign Minister Fernando Huanacuni Mamani, we evaluated areas of cooperation.”

Mamani arrived in the Turkish capital on behalf of Bolivian President Evo Morales to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On Feb. 14, Turkey's diplomatic representative in Bolivia and the first ambassador Serap Ozcoskun took her term of office after presenting her credentials.

Turkey has 14 embassies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
