Bomb blast kills Hashd al-Shaabi commander in Iraq’s Anbar

There was no claim of responsibility for attack

BAGHDAD (AA) – A commander of the pro-government Hashd al-Shaabi militia was killed in a bomb explosion in western Iraq on Sunday, according to an official statement.

The militia said in a statement that Abu Hasan Al-Jaberi lost his life when an explosive device exploded in the Anbar province.

A security source said the explosion struck as Al-Jaberi’s convoy was passing in the desert in Anbar.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Sunday’s bomb blast came a few days after the Iraqi army launched a large-scale military operation to hunt down Daesh/ISIS terrorists in five Iraqi provinces.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS by reclaiming all territories the terrorist group controlled since the summer of 2014 which was estimated to be about a third of the country’s territory.

The group, however, still maintains sleeper cells in large areas in Iraq and occasionally launches sporadic attacks.
