Bombing kills 6 members of Afghan family: Official
Afghan security forces, Taliban exchange allegations for tragic incident in northern Kapisa province

By Shadi Khan Saif

KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) - At least six members of a single family in Afghanistan were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast allegedly planted by the Taliban, an official said on Wednesday.

The tragic incident took place in Najrab district of northern Kapisa province last night.

According to Nusrat Rahimi, the Interior Ministry spokesman, the IED allegedly planted by the Taliban claimed the lives of four women and two children in the district.

Rejecting the allegation, the Taliban said in a Twitter post the casualties in Najrab were instead caused by artillery shelling by the security forces.

On the heels of failed peace talks between the U.S and the Taliban, the Afghan forces backed by American air power have managed to reclaim some territory from the insurgents in Afghanistan, resulting in deadly clashes in various pockets of the country claiming many lives on all sides.

In its mid-year report, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan documented 3,812 civilian casualties (1,366 deaths and 2,446 injured) in the first half of 2019 alone.

According to the report, women and children continued to be disproportionately impacted by the armed conflict in Afghanistan. Up to June 30, 2019, the conflict caused casualties of 430 women (144 deaths and 286 injured) and 1,207 casualties of children (327 deaths and 880 injured).
