Borsa Istanbul up at opening session

BIST 100 index gains around 5.5 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,101.72 points on Wednesday, up 0.51% or 5.56 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.84% reaching 1,082.24 points with a daily trading volume of 14.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.84 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 7.6790 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to 7.6540 at previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 8.9720 versus 8.9780 while British pound traded for 9.7700 Turkish liras, down from 9.7910.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $41.40 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
