Borussia Dortmund to auction off special jerseys to benefit quake victims in Türkiye, Syria

ANKARA (AA) - Borussia Dortmund will auction off their match-worn special jerseys to benefit earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria, the German Bundesliga club said on Friday.

"In order to help the people of south-east Turkey and north-west of civil war-torn Syria once again, BVB decided at short notice to auction the new special jerseys worn by all players on Sunday against Hertha BSC (via MatchWornShirt)," said a statement from the team.

"Borussia Dortmund would like to call on you again to provide help and donate to the people in Turkey and Syria," it said, and shared a bank account on their website for earthquake relief.

Earlier Friday, Borussia Dortmund released a limited edition blacked-out shirt called "Coal and Steel" to celebrate the German city's industries and values.

Dortmund, a city in the Ruhr region, was built on the coal and steel industries.

Title contenders Borussia Dortmund will play against 16th-place Hertha Berlin in a Sunday German league match at their home ground Signal Iduna Park.

At least 38,000 people were killed by the two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Feb. 6, the country's disaster agency said early Friday.

The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes were centered in Kahramanmaras and struck 10 other provinces – Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Hatay, Gaziantep, Malatya, Kilis, Osmaniye, Elazig and Sanliurfa. More than 13 million people have been affected by the devastating quakes.

Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, also felt the strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours.
