Bosch to acquire assets of US chipmaker TSI for $1.5B

Company targets to expand global portfolio of SiC semiconductors by end of 2030 with planned acquisition

ISTANBUL (AA) - German technology firm Bosch announced Wednesday that it plans to acquire the assets of US chipmaker TSI Semiconductors for $1.5 billion.

Bosch said in a statement that it is expanding its semiconductor business with silicon carbide (SiC) chips, with the aim of producing chips at TSI's site in Roseville, California starting in 2026.

“With the acquisition of TSI Semiconductors, we are establishing manufacturing capacity for SiC chips in an important sales market while also increasing our semiconductor manufacturing globally," said Stefan Hartung, the chairman of the board of management at Bosch.

The company said it targets to expand its global portfolio of SiC semiconductors by the end of 2030 with the planned acquisition.

"The full scope of the planned investment will be heavily dependent on federal funding opportunities available via the CHIPS and Science Act as well as economic development opportunities within the State of California," it said.

US President Joe Biden's bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act signed into law last August set aside $52.7 billion to increase production of American-made semiconductors, address supply chain vulnerabilities by producing more goods in the US, bolster domestic scientific research, and strengthen the country’s economic and national security.
