Brazil's retail sales jump 3.2% in September, higher than estimates

Retail sales volume expands 1.1% on monthly basis

ANKARA (AA) - Retail sales in Brazil jumped 3.2% in September, much higher than estimates, according to data released Wednesday.

The expectation was for the figure to show an annual gain of 1.4% after it rose 1.6% in August year-on-year.

Six of the eight sectors in the retail sector posted gains, including vehicles, construction, communication and textile, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said in a statement.

Retail sales volume expanded 1.1% in September, compared to August, which was stronger than expectations.

The estimate for September was a monthly gain of 0.2% after retail sales rose 0.1% in August.
