By Sinan Ozmus

ANTALYA, Turkey (AA) - British golfer Tyrrell Hatton became the Turkish Airlines Open 2019 winner on Sunday.

Hatton, 28, claimed the 2019 title in the fourth round following a six-man playoff at Montgomerie Maxx Royal Golf Course in the Mediterranean province of Antalya.

Austrian player Matthias Schwab, Benjamin Hebert and Victor Perez from France, Hatton, Kurt Kitayama from the U.S., and South Africa's Erik Van Rooyen competed in Sunday's playoff.

Van Rooyen, Hebert and Perez were eliminated in the first round.

Hatton, Kitayama and Schwab played two more rounds to break the tie. Kitayama was eliminated in the third round.

In the fourth round Schwab missed the hole in a close range attempt, which brought Hatton to victory.

Hatton took home the trophy and a check for $2 million.

"It's hard to put into words. It's just been a crazy day. Obviously the playoff was mental, and I'm just so happy to win again," Hatton said after winning the title.

Schwab was the runner-up, while Kitayama came third.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu presented the trophy to Hatton.

Cavusoglu said that he enjoyed watching Sunday's playoff stage.

"I’m not too great, obviously but it was a close call. I had some good looks and good chances coming down the stretch in regular play, and didn't take advantage of them. In the playoff, it is what it is," Schwab, 24, said after the game.

The Turkish Airlines Open is one of the key tournaments in the European Tour since its debut in 2013.

Sponsored by Turkish Airlines, it has a combined prize of $7 million.
