British MMA fighter Aspinall defeats Volkov in UFC heavyweight bout

ANKARA (AA) - British Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Tom Aspinall beat Alexander Volkov from Russia in Saturday's UFC Fight Night 204 heavyweight bout.

Aspinall, 28, defeated Volkov, 33, by submission in the first round to bag his 12th career win in the main event at London's O2 Arena.

Aspinall, who has five consecutive UFC fight wins since 2020, is ranked 11th in the UFC heavyweight standings. Volkov is sixth in the globe with 34 MMA fight wins.

The Russian fighter lost 10 fights since 2009.

Aspinall is 12-2.

The UFC returned to London for the first time since March 2019.

The 2020 fight was previously canceled for the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2021 event was relocated to Las Vegas for the same concerns.
