British sprinter CJ Ujah banned for 22 months for failing drug test

28-year-old tests positive for presence of Ostarine and S-23, and his ban backdates to Aug. 6, 2021

ANKARA (AA) - British sprinter Chijindu Ujah on Monday was banned from sports for 22 months for the presence of prohibited substances at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were held the following year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirmed that Ujah, 28, tested positive for Ostarine and S-23 during the 2020 Games on Aug. 6, 2021.

It stated that his ban will last through June 5, 2023 as the athlete admitted the violation, which reduced his ban by two months.

Great Britain – including Ujah – was stripped of the Olympic silver in men's 4x100m relay for testing positive for banned substances.

The AIU and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirmed that Ujah's anti-doping rule violation "was not intentional.”

Ostarine and S-23 are selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMS).

The UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) says that Ostarine is a "drug designed to have similar effects to testosterone.”
