ANKARA (AA) - Burkina Faso drew 1-1 with Ethiopia on Monday at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to secure a last 16 berth in the tournament.
In the 24th minute at Stade de Kouekong in Bafoussam, Cameroon, Burkina Faso took the lead as Cyrille Bayala scored.
But Ethiopia leveled the match in the 52nd minute as Getaneh Kebede converted from the penalty spot.
As a result, Burkina Faso accompanied Group A winners Cameroon to the round of 16.
Hosts Cameroon won the group with seven points in three matches and have already booked a spot in the next round.
On Monday, Cameroon took a 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in Yaounde's Stade d'Olembe to complete the group stage.
Second-place Burkina Faso collected four points to reach the AFCON knockout stage.
Third in the group, Cape Verde have four points as well.
But Burkina Faso bagged the last 16 ticket on goal average as they scored one more goal than Cape Verde did in the group phase.
Now Cape Verde must wait for a possible chance to make the last 16.
Ethiopia have one point to come last in Group A.
The six group winners and runners-up (A to F), and four best third-placed teams will play in the round of 16.
