DOUALA, Cameroon (AA) - Burkina Faso’s President Roch Marc Christian Kabore dismissed Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabire, according to a presidential decree published late Wednesday.

Dabire submitted his letter of resignation, which Kabore accepted.

According to Burkina Faso law, the resignation of the prime minister requires the resignation of the entire government.

“The duties of Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabire are terminated,” said the decree, which was signed by Kabore.

It said members of the outgoing government will carry out the day-to-day business of the ministerial departments until a new government is formed.

Dabire led the government since January 2019.

The development comes amid a tense security situation in the country with recurrent terrorist attacks sometimes resulting in hundreds of deaths.

The population, the opposition and civil society have repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the government's management of the situation.

The opposition said the threshold of the government's inability to find solutions for the security of Burkinabe has been crossed.

It made the statement in June this year while calling for the resignation of the prime minister and defense minister.

A few days after the tragedy in Inata, where 53 paramilitary officers and four civilians were killed in a terrorist attack on a camp on Nov. 14, Kabore announced "a change of paradigm" to respond to "various reactions."

In July 2021, bowing to mounting pressure from the opposition following deadly terrorist attacks in his country, he had also dismissed the ministers of defense and security.

The aim was part of his desire to "breathe new life into our commitments in the face of the great challenges of the nation," he said on Twitter.
