Bus explosion kills 2 in Uganda

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - A suspected bomb exploded in a moving bus full of passengers, reportedly killing two people and injuring many others.

This comes after a bomb exploded in a restaurant in the outskirts of Kampala on Saturday.

According to police officer Thomas Kiguli, who was among the passengers, the explosion happened on Monday evening in a bus belonging to Swift Safari, traveling from Uganda's capital Kampala to Bushenyi, about 300 km west of the city.

The bus blew off at a location called Lungala in Mpigi district about about 30 kms from the city.

"We were in the bus registration number UAU 989T. When we reached a place called Lungala in Mpigi district, an explosion occurred in the middle of the bus. We all struggled to get out. Most of us got out through the windows," said Kiguli.

He said two people died at the spot but some others got severe injuries and the death toll may go up. He said among the injured is a senior police officer.

Police and other security organizations have rushed at the scene. Investigations were launched into the explosion.

UK warned recently that terrorists were about to start hitting Uganda.
