Cambodia shuts door on Meta’s oversight board members over Facebook row

ISTANBUL (AA) - Cambodia has declared 22 members of Meta’s oversight board “persona non grata,” the country’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

This came after the board recommended suspending Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Facebook account over alleged content violations.

Calling the board’s recommendation “political in nature,” the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said: “It intends to obstruct the freedom of the press for the citizens of Cambodia and the right to receive credible news from a leader whom they support and admire.”

The ministry said that the 22 persons must leave the country within 48 hours if they are in the country.
