MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - At least three people were wounded on Wednesday in a car bombing in the Somali capital Mogadishu, police said.

The casualties included staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The blast took place at the KM5 street near the ICRC office.

Mohamed Bulle, a police officer in Mogadishu, told Anadolu Agency over the phone that three people including ICRC aid workers were wounded in the blast.

The injured were rushed to a hospital and an investigation into the incident is underway, he added.

ICRC confirmed in a statement posted on Twitter that one of its staff was wounded in the bombing.

"We're shocked and deeply troubled that one of our staff was injured by a car bomb today in Mogadishu. Our thoughts are with his family as we seek to understand the details behind this tragic incident," the humanitarian aid group said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast but Somali-based insurgent group al-Shabaab had claimed responsibility for deadly recent attacks in the capital.

On Sunday, four people were killed in a car bombing near the Somali Parliament building in Mogadishu.
