ANKARA (AA) – China's national weather agency on Sunday renewed a yellow alert for high temperatures as heatwaves scorched several provinces of the country.
Temperatures in parts of Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Xinjiang, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Yunnan, Guangxi, and Hainan provinces are expected to reach 35 to 36 degrees Celsius (96 Fahrenheit) during daylight hours on Sunday, state-run Xinhua News reported citing the National Meteorological Center.
Mercury in some of these regions is expected to hit 37 to 39 degrees Celsius and may even exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in some locations, according to the forecast.
The meteorological agency advised people in these areas to remain indoors during high-temperature periods in the afternoon and suggested that workers exposed to high temperatures should adopt necessary protective measures.
China has a three-tier color-coded warning system for high temperatures, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange and yellow.
