ANKARA (AA) - More than two weeks after Joe Biden became president-elect of the US, China's President Xi Jinping sent his congratulatory message to the 46th American president on Wednesday.
"Promoting healthy and stable development of China-US relations not only serves the fundamental interests of the people in both countries, but also meets the common expectation of the international community," Xi said in his victory message to Biden.
"[I] hope the two sides will uphold the spirit of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, focus on cooperation, manage differences, advance the healthy and stable development of China-US ties, and join hands with other countries and the international community to promote the noble cause of world peace and development," said Xi, according to state-run news agency Xinhua.
On Nov. 7, Joe Biden was projected as the winner of the Nov. 3 elections and is set to be inaugurated in January. However, incumbent Donald Trump had until recently disputed the election results and claimed he would win the White House race.
However, Trump on Tuesday gave his greenlight for the transition to the new administration to begin.
During the Trump administration, bilateral relations between China and the US witnessed a nosedive as tensions mounted due to alleged trade misconduct by Beijing, as well as human rights violations in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
