Chinese VP calls for global cooperation in 2019

DAVOS (AA) - Chinese vice president on Wednesday said the international order was under “serious” threat and called on the global community to collaborate to cope with challenges in 2019.

Wang Qishan was speaking at a special session alongside the World Economic Forum’s founder Klaus Schwab in Davos, Switzerland.

Wang said China's growth success was not “serve up on a plate" and that "hard work" led to the success. He added that Beijing would focus on widening reforms and opening more markets to international companies.

The Chinese dignitary went on to say that his country was ready to contribute to global growth with its large market and increasing consumption.

"We have to work together to deal with the growing imbalances in many countries," he said.

Wang recalled that the Chinese economy had a growth rate of 6.6 percent in 2018.

"This figure is not any low, it is a significant figure. Speed is important, however, qualified and efficient growth is more important," he asserted.

Predicting that there would be more uncertainties in 2019, he said China's growth would continue regardless of the global trend.
