CIS member states hold high-level video-link meeting

ANKARA (AA) - The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held its yearly Council of Heads of Governments via video-link on Friday with top officials from its ten member states.

Chaired by Uzbekistan, the meeting focused on a variety of issues, including cooperation in the field of health care, as well as overcoming the social and economic consequences of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

It was also attended by the premiers of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as a deputy prime minister from Armenia and the Turkmenistan's deputy cabinet of ministers chair and foreign minister.

Sustainable transport and transit corridors, as well as cooperation in agro-industry, mechanical engineering, oil and gas processing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals and the service sector, was also discussed during the meeting, according to a report by Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry.

Besides these, the officials also deliberated on cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including joint projects in science, culture and sports.

The participants declared joint decisions on the implementation of various action plans, namely on economic development, interregional and border cooperation and humanitarian cooperation.

Attending the meeting, Turkmenistan's Rashid Meredov confirmed Ashgabat's commitment to cooperation within the CIS, especially on the implementation of the Strategy for Economic Development of the Commonwealth for the period up to 2030.

Meredov declared 2021 the "Year of Architecture and Urban Development in the CIS," based on a decision in last year's meeting.

The participants were informed about the activities planned to be held in Turkmenistan on architecture and urban planning next year.
