Climate activists superglue themselves to British speaker’s chair

LONDON (AA) – Climate change protesters superglued themselves to the speaker’s chair in Britain’s House of Commons on Friday, demanding a citizens’ assembly.

On their Twitter account, they shared photos of their protest, writing: “Extinction Rebellion have dropped banners across The Palace of Westminster, including off the building. The protest points to the need for a Citizens’ Assembly to cut through the corruption in Westminster, update politics & let the people decide.”

The image from inside the British parliament’s lower chamber showed three people glued to the speaker’s chair, with two of them holding banners.

Outside, protesters chained themselves to the front gates of parliament.

The British parliament is currently in recess, but is still open to the public. The demonstrators said they booked an official tour guide before setting about their protest.

Extinction Rebellion said around 50 people took part in their protest.
