Coronavirus: 1,188 more deaths in Brazil, 947 in Mexico

ANKARA (AA) – Brazil reported 1,185 additional coronavirus-linked fatalities on Thursday, while 947 more patients died in Mexico over the past 24 hours.

Death toll in the Latin American country now stands at 53,830, and the number of cases has reached 1.18 million with 42,725 new additions since Wednesday, according to its Health Ministry.

Brazil’s most populous city, Sao Paulo, remains the worst-hit with 238,822 infections.

In Mexico, the death toll has climbed to 24,324, and the overall case count increased by 5,437 to 196,847, the Health Ministry said.

The country, which borders the US, has recorded 149,318 recoveries since the beginning of the outbreak.

Since emerging in China last December, the novel virus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions, and Latin America is among the most severely affected regions at present, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Nearly 9.4 million COVID-19 cases have been recorded worldwide, including over 482,700 deaths and more than 4.74 million recoveries.
