Coronavirus case tally rises in Arab countries

ISTANBUL (AA) - Health authorities in three Arab countries reported new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus late Tuesday.

In a statement, Oman's Health Ministry said one more patient had died from the virus, bringing the country’s death toll to 13.

Bahrain's Health Ministry reported 41 more coronavirus cases, 34 of them foreign workers, bringing the overall figure to 3,720.

Eight people have died from the virus so far, the ministry said.

Tunisia’s Health Ministry meanwhile confirmed four more coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 1,022.

The ministry said 43 people have died from the disease while 482 had recovered.

Since first appearing in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 187 countries and regions, with the US and Europe the hardest-hit areas.

More than 3.6 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the death toll surpassing 257,000 and over 1.1 million recoveries, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University in the US.
