Coronavirus cases, deaths rise in Arab countries

Kuwait, Morocco, Libya, UAE and Jordan report new COVID-19 infections, fatalities

ISTANBUL (AA) - Authorities in Arab countries confirmed more cases and deaths Sunday from the novel coronavirus outbreak.

-Kuwait

At least three deaths and 385 new infections were reported in Kuwait over the past 24 hours, according to a statement by the Health Ministry.

The death toll in the country reached 584 and the number of cases climbed to 99,434, including 90,168 recoveries.

-Morocco

Morocco reported at least 35 more fatalities from COVID-19, bringing the country’s death toll to 1,830, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

A total of 1,927 infections were also reported, bringing the number of cases to 101,743, while 80,732 people have recovered from the virus, it added.

-Libya

In Libya, the National Center for Disease Control confirmed eight deaths as 715 patients tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours.

It added that total cases in the North African country stood at 27,949, with 444 deaths and 15,068 recoveries.

-United Arab Emirates

The Emirati Health Ministry said the country’s case tally has reached 84,916, including 404 deaths and 74,273 recoveries.

-Jordan

Jordan reported 239 new cases, according to the country's health minister.

The death toll hit 30 and the number of infections stands at 4,799, including 2,851 recoveries.

Worldwide, the virus has claimed more than 958,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since first emerging in Wuhan, China in December.

The US, India, Brazil and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 30.87 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 21.1 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
