Coronavirus cases rise in 4 Arab states

ANKARA (AA) - Tunisia on Saturday confirmed a new fatality from the novel coronavirus, while Morocco, Oman and Yemen reported new infections.

In a statement, the Tunisian Health Ministry said one person died due to the virus, bringing the tally to 45.

The ministry said four more cases were detected, taking the total number of infections in the country to 1,030.

In Morocco, the Health Ministry said the country's total infections rose by 162 to 5,873. Moroccan authorities have so far confirmed 186 deaths from the disease.

Oman's health authorities said 112 new cases of the coronavirus were reported over the past 24 hours, raising the total cases in the Gulf state to 3,224.

In Yemen, Houthi rebels confirmed a second coronavirus case in areas under their control.

So far, eight people died and 35 others tested positive for the virus in areas held by Yemen's internationally recognized government.

After originating in China last December, the virus has spread to at least 187 countries and regions. Europe and the US are currently the worst-hit regions.

The pandemic has killed more than 275,500 worldwide, with over 3.96 million infections, while recoveries have exceeded 1.33 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
