Coronavirus fatalities, infections mount in Latin America

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Countries across Latin America have reported new COVID-19 infections and fatalities, according to official data announced late Friday.

- Brazil

At least 756 more people lost their lives in Brazil and 25,565 people were infected over the past 24 hours.

The death toll in the country rose to 582,670 and the total number of confirmed cases exceeded 20.85 million, according to the Health Ministry.

The country has reported over 19.82 million recoveries so far.

- Mexico

According to the Health Ministry, Mexico's COVID-19 case tally surged by 17,409, while fatalities increased by 725 over the past day.

The country of some 126 million people has so far recorded more than 3.4 million cases, 262,221 deaths, and over 2.7 million recoveries.

- Colombia

Colombia’s Health Ministry reported 61 more fatalities from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the country’s death toll to 125,158.

The total number of cases surpassed 4.9 million, including 1,850 new infections, while the number of recoveries stood at over 4.74 million.

- Argentina

Some 4,318 new infections raised Argentina’s case tally to over 5.19 million, according to Health Ministry data.

The nationwide death toll rose to 112,356 as 161 patients died over the past day. More than 4.87 million recoveries have so far been reported.

- Peru

Peru reported 27 fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 198,420, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose by 563 to reach over 2.1 million. More than 2 million people have recovered from the virus.

- Chile

Over the past day, Chile reported 46 deaths related to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 37,041, according to the country's Health Ministry.

The number of infections rose by 494, raising the total number of cases to more than 1.64 million. More than 1.59 million people have recovered so far.

- Paraguay

According to data from Paraguay's Health Ministry, 43 more virus patients died over the last day, pushing the death toll to 15,864.

The country reported 83 new cases, raising total infections to 458,799, while recoveries reached 438,081.

- Honduras

Honduras reported 25 fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 9,023, according to the local media reports.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose by 1,299 to reach 343,807. A total of 107,551 people have recovered from the virus.

- Costa Rica

According to local media in Costa Rica, the country reported 28 fatalities in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 5,568.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose by 2,750 to reach 472,315, while a total of 377,597 people have recovered from the virus.
