Coronavirus kills more people in KSA, Oman, Kuwait

Qatar, Libya and Tunisia also announce new virus numbers

ISTANBUL (AA) – The coronavirus pandemic claimed more lives in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Libya on Sunday as the Middle East continues to battle the disease.

The Saudi Health Ministry said 42 people died from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the nationwide death toll to 2,223.

A ministry statement said a further 779 new infections and 1,742 recoveries were registered, bringing the total to 232,259 and 167,138, respectively.

In Oman, the Health Ministry recorded nine additional fatalities and 1,318 new cases, taking the overall death toll to 257 and confirmed infections to 56,015.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry said the virus claimed four more lives and infected 836 people, raising the figure to 54,894 confirmed cases, including 390 fatalities.

In Qatar, one person succumbed to the deadly virus, while 470 new cases were registered.

The Gulf state’s tally now stands at 103,598 cases, including 147 deaths, and 99,743 recoveries.

In Libya, the government's National Center for Disease Control recorded one fatality, 44 new infections and one recovery.

The new figures take the tally to 1,433 cases, including 39 fatalities, and 341 recoveries.

Meanwhile, Tunisia's health authorities confirmed 18 new virus infections, bringing the country's total to 1,263 infections, including 50 deaths, and 1,076 recovered cases.
