Costa Rican president tests positive for COVID-19

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - The president of Costa Rica has tested positive Thursday for the coronavirus.

Carlos Alvarado said he has mild symptoms but feels fine.

“I will be following the measures established by the Health Ministry. Let’s take care of ourselves and get vaccinated,” he said on Twitter.

A total of 7,730 people have died and 745,949 have been infected with the virus in Costa Rica.

As part of a national vaccination campaign, 71.9% of the population is fully vaccinated and 11.9% have received a third booster shot.

Since December 2019, the virus has claimed more than 5.78 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with over 404.4 million cases reported worldwide, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University.
