COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia top 300,000

At least 6,249 new cases, 73 fatalities confirmed over past 24 hours

JAKARTA (AA) - The number of coronavirus cases in Southeast Asian countries reached 300,901 on Wednesday, including 7,802 fatalities and 200,498 recoveries.

A total of 6,249 more cases and 73 deaths were recorded in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations over the past day.

Indonesia, the worst-hit in the region, reported 64 fatalities, bringing the nationwide death toll to 5,452.

The number of cases climbed to 116,871 with 1,815 additions, while recoveries rose by 1,839 to reach 73,889.

The Philippines reported nine more virus-related fatalities, raising the country’s death toll to 2,123.

The number of infections rose by 3,462 to hit 115,980, while recoveries reached 66,270.

In Singapore, 908 new cases were registered over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 54,254, while the death toll in the country stands at 27.

Malaysia confirmed 21 more cases, taking the total to 9,023, while recoveries reached 8,702 and the death toll remained at 125.

In Thailand, seven new cases took the total to 3,328, including 58 fatalities, and the country has so far registered 3,144 recoveries.

Myanmar confirmed one more infection, bringing the overall count to 356, while a total of 302 patients have recovered.

Vietnam reported 33 new infections, moving its total cases to 685.

The number of recoveries in the country reached 381, while fatalities stand at eight.

Cambodia confirmed two new cases, bringing the tally to 243, and the country has not reported any fatality.

Meanwhile, there have been no reports of new infections or fatalities in Brunei Darussalam and Laos.
