COVID-19: Greece reintroduces travel measures

All passengers will be subject to random rapid test, while UK passengers will all be required to take rapid test

By Magda Panoutsopoulou

ATHENS (AA) - Greece on Friday reintroduced its travel restrictions in an aim to stem the further spread of COVID-19.

According to a press release by the Civil Aviation Authority, all passengers arriving in the country from abroad will be placed in a seven-day self-quarantine at the address mentioned on their PLF (passenger locator form), while the existing COVID-19 Notams (notices to airmen) are extended for flights from abroad until midnight on Jan. 21.

Specifically, all passengers coming into Greece from abroad as well as countries of the EU will be subject to a random rapid test upon arrival.

Those arriving from the UK will all be subjected to a rapid test and at the end of the seven-day quarantine they must also repeat the PCR test. Anyone testing positive will have to quarantine for extra 14 days.

Flights to and from Turkey and Catalonia in Spain are still banned while flights from and to Albania and North Macedonia will only be allowed via Athens International Airport.

There will be a limit of 10,000 passengers per week arriving from Israel to all airports, while a limit of 500 Russians a week is placed for arrivals at Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion in Crete.

Flying from non-EU countries directly to Greece is not allowed, except for permanent residents of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates or the UK.
