COVID-19 recoveries cross 400,000 in Russia

MOSCOW (AA) - The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Russia crossed 400,000 on Monday.

Over the last 24 hours, 4,343 more patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of people cured of coronavirus to 403,430, the country's emergency task force said in a daily report.

Over the same period 6,719 new infections were registered in Russia, raising the tally to 641,156, with active cases comprising about a third of the overall number.

The death toll rose to 9,166 since yesterday after the virus claimed 93 more lives.

Russia saw more recoveries than new cases for the last two weeks and the incidence rate decreased by 10%.

In June, most of the lockdown measures were eased throughout the country, including the capital Moscow.

Trials for several vaccines have started and authorities have so far approved two medications for the treatment of the virus.

Since originating in China last December, the pandemic has claimed nearly 502,000 lives in 188 countries and regions.

More than 10 million cases have been reported worldwide, while over 5 million patients have recovered so far, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
