5 Daesh attacked Kiwan military base in northwestern Kirkuk

BAGHDAD (AA) – Two Kurdish soldiers were killed in a Daesh attack on a military base in Kirkuk in northern Iraq on Sunday, according to a Kurdish Peshmerga officer.
Five Daesh bombers tried to break into the Kiwan military base in northwestern Kirkuk, captain Kamran Mahmood told Anadolu Agency.
“Our forces killed four bombers on the walls on the base, but a fifth bomber managed to blow up himself inside the site,” he said.
According to Mahmood, two Peshmerga soldiers were killed and eight others injured in the attack.
Daesh still holds some districts in southwestern Kirkuk province, which the terrorist group overran -- along with vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq -- in 2014.
In late October, the Iraqi army, backed by U.S.-led coalition warplanes, launched a major offensive to recapture Mosul, once Iraq’s second largest city in terms of population, from the terrorist group.
