BAGHDAD (AA) – At least ten people were killed when Daesh militants attacked two oil facilities in Kirkuk in northern Iraq on Sunday, according to Kurdish security sources.

Daesh militants broke into a gas compressor station west of Kirkuk, killing four employees, Kurdish peshmerga officer Salar Mohammed told Anadolu Agency.

He said the attackers had planted explosive devices into the plant.

“Two devices exploded while bomb disposal experts were working to defuse them,” he said.

A Kurdish security source, meanwhile, said five Daesh bombers attacked the Bai Hassan oilfield in the northwest of the Kirkuk.

“Two guards were shot dead” by the attackers, the source said anonymously due to restrictions to speaking to media.

According to the source, peshmerga forces chased the attackers and killed them all.

“Five peshmerga forces were injured,” he said.

The source said fire broke out at two oil tanks in the oilfield and civil defense teams were struggling to extinguish the fire.
