ANKARA (AA) - The Daily Mirror apologized Saturday after it mistakenly used a picture of the wrong person to illustrate a story about Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng on its website.
The newly appointed chancellor noticed the error and tweeted that he was not the man in the picture, prompting The Daily Mirror to issue an apology.
The apology came after Kwarteng tweeted a screenshot of an online story about the mini-budget, featuring a picture of Bernard Mensah, the president of international for Bank of America.
“That isn’t me… @DailyMirror” the chancellor wrote in a tweet.
The British daily tabloid responded by saying it was a “terrible error” and added that “the Mirror has a long history of working against racism and we will redouble our efforts on this.” Its article was also updated with a picture of the chancellor.
The photograph was incorrectly captioned with the words: “Kwasi Kwarteng said he had to do ‘something different’ with mini-budget.”
Kwarteng is Britain’s first Black chancellor and the first Black to serve in one of the country’s four Great Offices of State.
