Daughter outs pro-Trump mom at US Capitol riots

ANKARA (AA) - A woman told the TMZ news outlet she does not have any regrets outing her mother as a pro-Trump supporter, one day before the US Capitol building was stormed by rioters earlier this month.

A Twitter video went viral within hours after Helena Duke captioned it Jan. 7 saying: "hi mom remember the time you told me I shouldn't go to BLM [Black Lives Matter] protests bc they could get violent...this you?"

It shows Duke’s mother, Theresa Duke, being punched Jan. 5 by a security guard outside the Capitol, where supporters of US President Donald Trump clashed with a counter-protest group in Washington, D.C.

Trump supporters besieged the building the following day in a deadly riot that killed at least five people.

The younger Duke said she felt "a bit guilty," but said: "I think it was really liberating what I did because my mom has been really mentally abusive my whole life. And this was like going public, how she has treated me, so."

"I don’t think, I have any regrets," she added.

She claimed that Trump radicalized her mother after one year in office and noted she had no idea that her mother, who was a Democrat for all her life, was participating in the protests and found out when she saw the video.

Trump is bracing for a second Senate impeachment trial, the first time a US president has been impeached twice, for his alleged role in the riots that saw lawmakers taken into lockdown as the president's supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.
