Denmark jails 4 over attack on Turkish Embassy

Convicts threw Molotov cocktails at embassy in Copenhagen last March

COPENHAGEN (AA) - A Danish court on Wednesday handed prison sentences to four people over an attack on the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen last year.

Three of the convicts, aged between 19 to 24 years, were sentenced to one-year-and-nine-months in prison, while one was handed one-and-a-half-year behind bars.

The time they spend in detention since last March will be included in the jail term.

The court also gave orders to exile the convicts from the country for 12 years after they complete their sentence.

Court records said the convicts tried to set the embassy on fire by throwing two out seven Molotov cocktails they were carrying at the building. No casualties were reported but the building suffered damage.

The defense lawyers are expected to appeal the verdict.

Attacks on Turkish buildings in Europe intensified after Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch last January to remove the PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union, waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years and has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people.
