Uganda faces blood shortage as people shun donations due to corruption, superstition

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - Helen Namusobya wails outside a hospital in Bugiri district in eastern Uganda. She just lost her sister, who died while giving birth. She had bled and needed a blood transfusion but failed to raise the 100,000 shillings ($29) asked by the doctor in order to obtain one.
