Divers mark Anadolu Agency's 98th birthday underwater

ESKISEHIR, Turkey (AA) - Marking the 98th anniversary of Anadolu Agency’s founding on Thursday, divers in a central Turkish town celebrated underwater, at the mouth of a mighty river.

Divers in Cifteler, a town in the Central Anatolian province of Eskisehir, unfurled the Turkish flag and a banner with Anadolu Agency’s logo at the underwater mouth of Turkey's third-largest river, located at Sakaryabasi Springs.

Starting in Cifteler, the Sakarya River snakes and curves 824 kilometers (512 miles) mainly northward until it reaches all the way to the Black Sea.

A diving instructor from the Cifteler Diving Club told Anadolu Agency that the agency was born from Anatolia, just like the Sakarya River.

"Anadolu Agency is 98 years old, so we celebrated its anniversary with Anadolu Agency employees,” said Omer Faruk Ozen.

“Just the way here [Sakaryabasi Springs] feeds the Sakarya River, Anadolu Agency is the source of news in [Turkish] media."
