Dow Jones, S&P 500 post biggest daily gain in 2 weeks

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 closed Friday with gains and posted their biggest daily gain in two weeks.

The Dow added 330 points, or 1%, to 33,375. The S&P 500 rose 73 points, or 1.89% to 3,972.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 288 points, or 2.66%, to 11,140 points.

However, on a weekly basis, the Dow fell 2.7% and the S&P shed 0.7%, but the Nasdaq gained 0.6%.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, plummeted 3.6% to 19.78. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.6% to 3.488%.

The dollar index lost 0.1% to 101.99, while the euro increased 0.3% to $1.0856 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold trimming 0.3% to $1,927 per ounce but silver rising 0.4% to $23.94.

Crude oil prices were up, with global benchmark Brent crude gaining 1.8% to $87.73 per barrel, and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.81 – a 1.5% daily gain.
