Dow, Nasdaq lead way as US stocks open higher

ANKARA (AA) - The Dow and Nasdaq led the way as US stocks opened higher Thursday.

The Dow rose 242 points, or 0.8%, to at 30,665 at 9.59 a.m. (1359GMT). The S&P 500 added 21 points, or 0.59%, to 3,717.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 88 points, or 0.83%, to 10,770.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 2.3% to 30.20. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1% to 4.172%.

The dollar index fell 0.22% to 112.72, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro added 0.3% to $0.98 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise with gold adding 0.4% to $1,636 and silver increasing 1.4% to $18.71.

Oil prices were in positive territory. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $94.23 per barrel, up 2.1%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was around $86.55, adding 2.4%.
